Effectiveness of Siddha Varmam Therapy in Improving Pain, Flexibility and Quality of Life in Osteoarthritis Adults: A Randomized Controlled Study
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint problem that causes pain, stiffness, and difficulty in movement. Usual treatments like painkillers (NSAIDs) can give temporary relief but often come with side effects and reliability on medications. Siddha Varmam therapy, a safe and non-invasive traditional treatment, focuses on reducing pain, improving flexibility, and enhancing the overall quality of life.
In a study carried out at Chakrasiddh, 60 patients with OA were observed. 30 patients were given therapy and rest 30 were asked to continue medications whenever pain comes and few exercises at home daily. The therapy was done for a month and daily monitoring and feedbacks were recorded. Those who received Siddha Varmam therapy experienced clear improvements — their pain and stiffness reduced, and their ability to move and perform daily activities became much better compared to those who only were on medications. Patients reported that they could move more comfortably, felt less dependent on medicines, and enjoyed a better quality of life. On the basis of a questionnaire prepared at centre, the patients with therapy reported better flexibility, pain reduction on any activity, movement was easier, few were able to take stairs and sitting down on floor, stiffness reduced as compared to those who did minor exercises.
This shows that Siddha Varmam therapy can be an effective and natural option for managing osteoarthritis and helping people live more active and pain-free lives.
