Cervical Stenosis management by Siddha therapy- A case report
Cervical stenosis is a condition where the space inside the spinal canal in the neck becomes narrow, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. This often causes neck pain, stiffness, tingling or numbness in the arms, weakness in the hands, and sometimes difficulty in balance or walking.
A 39-year-old male with confirmed cervical stenosis at the C5/C6 level came with severe neck pain, radiating pain to the arms, tingling, and weakness in grip strength. He was unable to lift heavy things, stiffness in neck region and disturbance in sleep due to continuous pain in arms. MRI showed disc changes and compression of the spinal cord. He was treated with Siddha therapy, which included Varmam treatment (energy point therapy) and Thokkanam (therapeutic massage) for 3 weeks’ time period. After several sessions, he reported much less pain, improved grip strength, better balance while walking, and reduced tingling and numbness in his arms. His overall flexibility and quality of life also improved.
This case shows how Siddha therapy can be a safe, supportive, and effective approach in managing cervical stenosis, offering relief and better function without the need for invasive surgery.
