RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS – A CASE REPORT

EFFECT OF VARMAN THERAPY ON UTHIRAVATHASURONITHAM

A 36-year-old gentleman from Tarnaka came to us with severe joint pain, stiffness, and difficulty in moving his shoulders, ankles, and finger joints. Everyday activities had become very hard for him due to restricted movement and constant pain.

He was already diagnosed from last 8 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), a condition that affects multiple joints, and is referred to as Uthiravathasuronitham in Siddha medicine. RA not only causes pain but also impacts a person’s mobility, general health, and overall quality of life. He had severe joint pains while doing any activity, had issues with hand gripping and morning stiffness. He underwent Siddha Varmam Therapy at Chakrasiddh for 23 days.

Improvements after therapy:

Pain relief: His pain score, which was previously very severe (rated 9/10), reduced to 2/10 after treatment.
Better mobility: Stiffness reduced in knees and shoulders, and he could move his joints more freely.
The disability score (HAQ-DI) dropped showing he could do his day-to-day tasks with ease and much comfort.
On the HAQ VAS scale, his pain decreased from 98/100 to 15/100.
Range of motion: His ability to bend, lift, and move improved remarkably.

After 23 sessions, he was able to walk, move, and carry out his routine activities much more comfortably, without the constant pain that troubled him earlier.
